Grim Covid figures for Dublin hospitals as only 5 ICU beds left with over 550 patients hospitalised

The number of people being hospitalised for COVID-19 is now "beyond comprehension" as only five ICU beds are left across Dublin hospitals.

There are just three adult ICU beds available in Beaumont and a further one each in St James's and Connolly.

Additionally, there are 1,750 patients with coronavirus in hospitals across Ireland with 158 in ICU.

Of these, there are currently 552 are in Dublin hospitals including 65 in ICU.

HSE boss Paul Reid has called the stark figures "beyond comprehension" as he issued an update this morning.

He said on Twitter: "Our hospitals are treating 1,750 people with COVID-19 and 158 critically ill in ICU. This is a level beyond comprehension.

"But to assure everyone, our healthcare teams are taking emergency actions to sustain this within a level of control. We appreciate your support."

Here is a breakdown of the number of Covid patients in Dublin hospitals as of 8 pm last night:

Confirmed cases (total 552)

  • St Vincent's - 119
  • St James's 94
  • Beaumont - 90
  • Mater - 86
  • Tallaght - 83
  • Connolly - 77
  • CHI Crumlin - 3

Suspected cases (total 110)

  • St James's - 57
  • Beaumont - 21
  • Mater - 9
  • Tallaght - 9
  • CHI Crumlin - 8
  • Connolly - 5
  • CHI Temple Street - 1

Confirmed cases in ICU (total 65)

  • St James's 18
  • Mater - 11
  • Beaumont - 10
  • Tallaght - 9
  • St Vincent's - 9
  • Connolly - 7
  • CHI Crumlin - 1
