Fallout will apparently return, but some people on the internet have been trying their damnedest to make you believe that’s a bad thing. They have tried so hard, in fact, that they’ve crossed over to the upside-down dimension, resulting in an unintentionally hype campaign for the future of Fallout.
Fortunately, gamers have learned a few things since GamerGate, so it’s no longer as easy as it once was to rile everybody up against an enemy that doesn’t exist. Try as hard as you want, no targeted hate campaign will slow down something the size of the Assassin’s Creed series, or at least not as much as Ubisoft’s own execs will. So, unaware that these things no longer seem to work as well, the usual grifters switched targets, not tactics. This time, they’re trying to convince players that Fallout is going to get “gay.” On top of that being too vague a reason to go after a game, they also did so through self-made posters that, well, only make the game look even cooler.
I’ve seen many LGBTQ+ flags in my life, but never one as cool and as empowering as one made by a guy who’s trying to trick you into not liking a game he still knows nothing about. Like, you don’t surround the thing you want others to hate with so many lightning bolts and bright neon lights, use it as a background for a strong, silent protagonist, and then hope the generation of gamers who live and breathe RGB lighting will see it as a bad thing.
Obsidian is responsible for Fallout: New Vegas, the most beloved Fallout title of all time, the one that people have been asking for a sequel or spiritual continuation of some form for the longest time. They were always going to die on this hill, but they needn’t die in such a ridiculous way. And this isn’t even the first time such a backfire has occurred, as more online Twitter scholars have noted. Look at how much cooler they made Venom a few months ago because of some other faked outrage.
All those bright colors will only make his natural darkness stand out even more. Naturally, neither campaign has had the desired effect. Instead, these graphics brought great clowning down upon the heads of their creators, who provided great unintentional support to the LGBTQ+ community.

We’re reaching peak blandness when it comes to design in all areas of life. Things look so soulless nowadays that even an attempt at making something bad can result in it looking cooler, simply because you put a bit of your soul into it.
