A staff member at Griffith University in Brisbane has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement release on Friday, the university said the employee was a close family contact of the 13-year-old school student who tested positive this morning.

Authorities confirmed the student, from St Thomas More College in Sunnybank in Brisbane's south, had been in the community while infectious.

Griffith University said the employee had attended a meeting on the Nathan campus in Brisbane's south on Wednesday this week.

The university said the staff member had visited the N72 Glyn Davis building as well as the N63 Business 3 building.

On Friday Queensland Health notified all attendees at the meeting and asked them to go home and immediately get tested for COVID-19.

Any student or staff member at the university who experiences COVID symptoms, no matter how mild, has been advised to get tested immediately.

Earlier, Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said authorities were still working through the movements of the student who tested positive.

Genome sequencing is underway, but the source and strain of the virus is currently unknown.

In the meantime, restrictions have been imposed on visitors to hospitals, aged care and disability care centres in the Logan Council area.

Late on Friday, Queensland Health announced further close contact venues had been added to the Queensland exposure site list.

A supermarket and bakery in Sunnybank Hills have been listed as close contact sites, while the Banoon train station is listed as "low risk".

There are now 22 active cases in Queensland.
