Griffin says stress around Cavs was because ‘LeBron gets all credit, no blame’

In a lengthy interview with Sports Illustrated, New Orleans Pelicans executive and former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin spoke at length about the stressors he left behind in Cleveland.

One of the biggest stressors, as most of you know, is the environment and scrutiny that follows LeBron James wherever he goes. And as Griffin describes, for people working on the teams that LeBron is on, it often seems as though LeBron’s faults rarely come up as often as everyone else’s when things go wrong.

“The reason is LeBron is getting all the credit and none of the blame. And that’s not fun for people,” Griffin says. “They don’t like being part of that world.”

Griffin has often been full of praise for LeBron James, especially for his work ethic and greatness. But while Griffin has a lot of respect for LeBron, it sounds like he doesn’t miss working on the same team with him.

So while some folks, including myself, wondered why the Los Angeles Lakers never even bothered to call Griffin, it’s fair to wonder whether their calls would have been received anyway.
