Grieving West Lothian mum says tearful final goodbye after son's tragic drug death

A heartbroken West Lothian mum has said her final goodbye after her son tragically died following a drug overdose.

Frontline worker Tracy Hadlow, from Livingston, spoke out after losing her son Nathan to "street valium" when he was just 20 years-old.

The NHS clinical support worker invited the BBC to film her son's funeral in the hope that it would shock lawmakers into taking action.

Tragic Nathan's funeral took place on Thursday, with his mum taking to social media to share her heartbreak after the community came out onto the streets to pay their respects.

She said: "Today I said goodbye to Nathan. We saw everyone who came out on the streets of Carmondean and Deans on a final journey that Nathan called home.

"The BBC interviewed me this morning and Nathan's funeral was filmed to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs."

The devastated mum added: "My heart's broken."

Recovering addict Aidan Martin spoke on behalf of Nathan's family at his funeral. Before his death, Nathan's mum had reached out to author and campaigner Aidan for support.

The dad-of-two is now determined to help others. He told the Daily Record: "Since Nathan's death I've had a number of worried mothers contact me about their own children.

"They feel totally lost and that they're not being listened to.

"Service workers are trying hard, but more needs to be done."

Tracy, who learned of her son's death after a gruelling 12-hour shift on the frontline, said her son had begun experimenting with drugs and alcohol when he was just 13, revealing that it was "easy" for him to get his hands on pills within the school gates.

She said that while she knew he was in a dark place over the last six months of his life she never expected to lose him at 20.
