Grieving town begins fund to help tragic mum-of-three who was murdered in Liberties hostel

A GRIEVING town has begun a fund to help the family of a murder victim.

Mother of three Skaidrite Valdgeima, 34, who lived in Blessington was visiting Dublin and was staying in a tourist hostel.

Sources have said Skaidrite was attacked by a man in the hostel in the Liberties area of Dublin.

Now grieving neighbours in Blessington, Co Wicklow have opened a gofundme page to help the family of the murder victim.

The page, entitled In memory of Skaidrite Valdgeima , said: "Today we had some heartbreaking news that a young lady from our little town in Blessington was brutally struck down.

"She was a loving mother to her 3 beautiful children and they are left broken hearted at the thought they will never see her again. "There is nothing one can do only be there. I have set up this go fund me page to try lessen the burden of costs that will soon accumulate for events in the near future.

"If only something small, please try to donate and help the Skaidrite family in their hour of need."

The man, a Latvian, arrested is in continuing custody in Kevin Street Garda Station where detectives have been questioning him - they have a total of 24 hours excluding a rest period to question him.

A source said: "This man was caught red handed near the scene by unarmed gardai who confronted him and arrested him.

"He was in a crazed state and was covered in blood. Gardai have taken statements from a large number of people in the hostel and they have gathered a large amount of CCTV.

"The investigators will be contacting the DPP to determine what will happen next."

Skaidrite is understood to also be Latvian and lived with her three daughters in Wicklow.

The news of the horrific murder has shocked her colleagues at Word Perfect Translations.

Rebecca O'Sullivan said that she and her the rest of the staff were devastated to hear of the murder of the "lovely and friendly" colleague.

She said: "She was an absolute model employee and fantastic person.

"We were trying to contact her as we had an assignment for her. She was also looking forward to getting her citizenship later this week.

"We are just in total shock. She was a very hard worker and always willing to take on any task we gave her.

"She lived for her children and her family.  We would all like to extend our deepest sympathies to Skaidrite family."

The hostel where it took place is the Binary Hub in the Liberties area of Dublin.
