Grieving sister only feet away as car broken into and bag stolen at Shanganagh Cemetery in Shankill, Dublin

A grieving sister was only feet away from her car when it broken into and her bag stolen at a Dublin cemetery.

It's the latest in a spate of graveside break-ins and robberies happening across the capital.

The devastated woman was in Shanganagh Cemetery in Shankill when the heartless robbery happened.

The car's window was smashed in the incident, and she is now warning others visiting the cemetery to not bring any valuables.

Sharing the warning to a local forum, she said: "Sorry to say but whilst visiting my brother's grave in Shanganagh I was robbed. I was only approximately 4ft from my locked car when my window was smashed and my bag taken.

"Just a warning to those visiting loved ones that it is advisable not to bring any valuables as having them in the boot of a locked car is no deterrent."

One woman shared a harrowing experience where an elderly lady had her items stolen while two funerals were happening.

She said: "That's just awful. I witnessed it happen to an elderly lady last year, there was two funerals on at the time nearby."

Dublin Live has previously reported on incidents at the graveyard - one happened while the owner of the car was standing beside it.

And there have also been incidents where grave robbers have stolen items from loved ones resting place.

There were reports in Shankill and also at Springfield Cemetery in Bray and Rathnew Cemetery.
