Grieving Queen 'will spend weeks replying to messages about Prince Philip'

The Queen is set to spend weeks replying to messages from world leaders following Prince Philip's death, a royal expert believes.

Robert Jobson said the monarch, who turned 95 yesterday, will stay in Windsor Castle where she will work over the next few weeks.

She will personally respond to dignitaries who sent their condolences after the Duke of Edinburgh died earlier this month, the Daily Star reports.

The two-week period of mourning for the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away aged 99, is due to last until Friday.

Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday was the first she has spent without her husband in seven decades.

In a message shared yesterday, she thanked people from around the world who had sent tributes.

She said: “I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate.

“While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world.”

Prince Charles was expected to phone her on her birthday, while Princes Andrew and Edward were reportedly expected to pay her a visit.

Philip, who she married in 1947, died “peacefully” on April 9.

His funeral was held in St George’s Chapel in Windsor last Saturday, April 17.
