Grieving Queen Camilla looks tearful as she's seen for first since since becoming Consort

An emotional Queen Camilla looked tearful as she and her husband King Charles started their journey back to London following the Queen's death.

The couple were driven to Aberdeen Airport after spending the night at Balmoral along with other members of the royal family, including Princes William and Harry.

Charles became King immediately and will now start his royal duties, beginning with a meeting with Prime Minister Liz Truss this afternoon. He will publicly address the nation in a televised speech this evening.

The statement announcing the Queen's death named Camilla as Queen Consort, in line with the Queen's wishes.

She used her Accession Day speech in her Platinum Jubilee to express her desire for Camilla to be at her son's side when he took the throne.

She said: "I was blessed that in Prince Philip I had a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and unselfishly make the sacrifices that go with it. It is a role I saw my own mother perform during my father’s reign.

"This anniversary also affords me a time to reflect on the goodwill shown to me by people of all nationalities, faiths and ages in this country and around the world over these years.

"I would like to express my thanks to you all for your support. I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me.

"And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

The royal family's website has been updated to reflect Camilla's new role.

It states: "Her Majesty The Queen Consort (formerly HRH The Duchess of Cornwall) supports her husband, formerly The Prince of Wales, now His Majesty The King, in carrying out his work and duties. She also undertakes public engagements on behalf of the charities that she supports.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken Charles and Camilla's Cornwall titles.
