Grieving parents left disgusted and devastated after baby's grave 'dug up' by vandals

A grieving mum has revealed her disgust after vandals tried to dig her baby's grave up.

Chantelle Garland and partner Mark Hayden were left devastated after she suffered a miscarriage at 16 weeks in February, 2017.

The heartbroken couple laid their baby to rest at Sleaford cemetery in Lincolnshire and ever since have regularly visited the grave to their respects.

But on June 17 the couple were outraged to find their child's grave had been vandalised.

The culprits had kicked in their baby's headstone and the ground had visibly been dug up.

Police were called to the scene and all were relieved to find that the baby's box had been left untouched.

But Miss Garland has said it has been an upsetting time for them both.

The 32-year-old who is currently 12 weeks pregnant said: "We went last week and the headstone had been kicked in and someone had tried to dig up the baby’s grave.

“I was sick. I literally vomited over the grass away from the baby’s grave - I had to walk away.

“When the police came out, they asked if I would show them. I couldn’t do that so my partner went with them.

“It is sick and wrong. It has left me and my partner distraught.”

Miss Garland's mother has now organised a replacement gravestone for the baby.

The mum-of-one revealed that Lincolnshire Police and North Kesteven District Council are exploring whether to install CCTV at the cemetery.

Speaking about the CCTV, Miss Garland said: "It will be fantastic [if they put CCTV there]. That way if it happens again they can get them. I am happy about that."
