Grieving mum raises £30k for orphaned children after death of son in skiing tragedy

A grieving mother has revealed how the death of her trainee surgeon son has enabled her to realise his dream of helping children in Africa.

William Reid , a 25-year-old Edinburgh doctor, died earlier this month during a family skiing holiday in the French Alps when he fell from a 30ft cliff in the resort of Avoriaz.

His mum Sarah told how he wanted to help an orphanage in the African country after visiting in 2013.

Having set up a fundraiser in his honour, it has reached £30,000.

Sarah said: “This is more than we expected.

"We will be working closely with the Baraka Community Partnership to help the community in other ways.”
