Grieving grandad pays tribute to 'angel' girl, 17, found dead 2 days after going missing

A heartbroken grandad has paid tribute to his 'angel' granddaughter who was found dead two days after vanishing from home.

Amy Hall went missing from her home in Hayfield, Derbyshire, on Thursday, September 9 at around 1pm.

Derbyshire Police say they believe a body discovered in the Birch Vale area near New Mills in the Peak District are those of the 17-year-old.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, police have informed Amy’s family of the tragic find.

Her tearful grandad told The Sun : "We are all devastated. She was a lovely girl. An angel."

A neighbour, Richard Hughes, 54, said her death was "heartbreaking".

"We all hoped she would be found safe and well. My heart goes out to the family," he added.

A friend of Amy's, who asked not to be named, said they helped to look for her and they had hoped to see her again.

"We all hoped we would see her again."It's terrible. Everyone is so upset."

Amy's devastated mum Nicky Hall announced the news of her daughter's death in a heartbreaking Facebook post.

She said: "I can't believe I am saying this but I feel I have to due to people organising searches and posters.

"Amy Hall's body was found earlier she has died. Sorry to tell people this way.

"Many thanks for everything everyone has done. Nicky Hall Amy's mum xxx."

Paying tribute, a friend wrote: "Rip Amy, I know we became friends for a short while, I was lucky to have met you.

"I’ll always remember our laughs at work on Sundays. So sorry for your loss Amy’s family and friends x."

A Facebook page that was set up when she went missing has now been renamed RIP Amy Hall.

Derbyshire Police said: "The body of a what is believed to be missing teenager Amy Hall has been found in the Birch Vale area, near New Mills.

'Amy's family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

'Formal identification of the 17-year-old is yet to take place, officers are preparing a file for the coroner and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
