Grieving family pay tribute to teen who died after County Durham car crash

A grieving family has paid tribute to a teenager who died after a car crash in County Durham at the weekend.

Georgia Duncan, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in Pity Me, Durham.

The teen from Tantobie, near Stanley, was a rear seat passenger in a silver Ford Fiesta when it collided with a wall on Potterhouse Lane on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the incident at around 6.20pm but despite their efforts, they could not save the teenager, Chronicle Live reports.

Her family described Georgia as a "much-loved" person who will be "greatly missed".

A statement released by her relatives reads: "Georgia was a much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend who will be greatly missed."

Floral tributes have also been left tied to a post at the scene of the fatal crash.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, and two other passengers, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police said in a statement: "Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, an 18-year-old woman, who was a rear passenger in the car, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers."

Officers launched an investigation and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in which a teenager tragically died.

"At 6.20pm yesterday (August 28), a silver Ford Fiesta collided with a wall on Potterhouse Lane, in Pity Me, Durham.

"Police are keen to speak to any witnesses who were in the area at the time, or anyone who may have any dashcam footage of the vehicle prior to the collision."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Durham Roads Policing Unit on 01325 742705, quoting incident number 336 of August 28.
