The grieving family of a Leeds boy who died after he was found face down in a Leeds swimming pool are determined to find out how he died.
Rocco Wright died at Leeds General Infirmary on April 22 in 2018, a day after he was seen at the bottom of the pool at the David Lloyd leisure centre in Moortown.
The three-year-old from Scarcroft had wandered off while his father Steven Wright was having a discussion with an instructor, by the pool.
Rocco was pulled from the water by his father and CPR was performed before he was taken to hospital by ambulance, but he died the following day.
The first post mortem examination conducted after the boy's tragic death was inconclusive and the coroner was told "the cause of death must await further tests", during a hearing in May 2018.
But the family are hoping to find out what caused their son's death, during a seven-day jury inquest at Wakefield Coroner's Court, which is due to begin on Monday, February 10.
During the inquest, the jury will be presented with evidence from medical experts and hear from several witnesses, including Rocco's father and lifeguards who were at the pool.
Rocco’s mother, Catharine Wright said: “Our grief is not only for what we have lost, but also for what might, and what should have been.
"Each missed milestone is a painful reminder of what Rocco has not and will never experience.
"Our amazing friends and family and community have helped guide us through this painful time.”
Ramsdens Solicitors will represent the family at the inquest.
Natalie Marrison, partner at Ramsdens Solicitors, who are representing the family, said: “Our thoughts remain with Rocco’s family throughout this very difficult time as his family, friends and community remain deeply affected by this loss.
"They hope this inquest will provide them with answers as to how Rocco came to his death and thank the coroner and all parties involved who have contributed to a thorough investigation.”
