Grieving dog owner builds memorial to lost pet on beach and leaves heartbreaking note

A grieving pet owner has left a tear-jerking memorial full of tennis balls on a beach following the death of their dog.

The balls are in a wooden basket on Silver Sands beach in south Australia in tribute to 'Bruce' with a note explaining why they are there.

There is also an adorable snap of Bruce charging out of the sea with the note that invites dog walkers to grab a tennis ball for their visit - and return it for the next canine to chase, Star Online reports.

A poster pinned onto the back of the basket reads: "In loving memory of Bruce.

"Please help yourself to a tennis ball for your dog to enjoy.

"You may also wish to pop it back in the box afterwards for another dog to play with. If you wish to keep it that's fine too!

"Remember to live each moment like your dog with unconditional love, loyalty and happiness."

A picture of the original memorial was shared online which resulted in tributes to Bruce and messages of comfort pouring in for his owner.

One person commented: "Aww how beautiful is this. Sleep peacefully Bruce and condolences and love to your family."

"RIP Bruce, if your humans did this in your memory I’m sure you had a wonderful life," another wrote.

Someone else said: "I hope Bruce is chasing balls in doggy heaven. I also hope his owners find peace in knowing they have touched so many people with their gesture."

"Such a lovely tribute to Bruce," an admirer of the memorial reacted.
