A crowdfunder has been launched for an injured greyhound who was badly bitten near Edinburgh.
Stevie was badly mauled by another dog while playing in a South Queensferry park with his owner Rosemary Veitch, 68.
The attack happened in King George V park at around 10am on Hogmanay as Rosemary and greyhound Stevie were heading home.
A 'large, aggressive' Alsatian suddenly attacked Stevie, bitting him on the right shoulder and leg.
This left the greyhound with severe injuries that have needed intensive vet care and several operations.
Stevie has undergone two major operations for skin grafts to date. The first being unsuccessful and the second with only limited success.
Rosemary has now launched an online fundraiser, looking to raise £5,000 to go towards further care.
"Stevie would like nothing more than to be back at the park chasing and heading his football. This is what he lives for.... and to eat tasty food and treats!
" What Stevie has endured has now left a once cheeky happy chappy incredibly sad stuck at home all day on the vets orders, complete bed rest," wrote Rosemary on the JustGiving page.
Stevie is expected to undergo future surgeries in attempt to ensure he makes a recovery and to save his leg.
Rosemary - who has her own medical issues - says she has faced "many sleepless nights caring for Stevie as he cries in pain."
The pensioner has also been alerted by the vet that her particular insurance policy will not cover the full extent of the treatments Stevie will receive.
