- Veteran actor Russell Andrews, known for his roles in Better Call Saul and Grey’s Anatomy, has publicly announced his diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
- Andrews, aged 64, shared the news live on CNN’s The Story Is with Elex Michaelson on Saturday, accompanied by his fiancée, actor Erica Tazel.
- He revealed he received the diagnosis in the late autumn of last year, having initially attributed early symptoms such as muscle twitches and dropping objects to pinched nerves or stress from the Covid pandemic and Hollywood strikes.
- ALS is a rare, degenerative motor neurone disease that affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, impacting movement, speech, and independence, a condition that has recently been in the spotlight after another Grey’s Anatomy star, Eric Dane, was also diagnosed.
- Andrews has partnered with the ALS Network to mark ALS Awareness Month this May, expressing gratitude for the profound community support he has received since his diagnosis.
