Gretar Steinsson to leave Tottenham as Daniel Levy reshuffle continues behind the scenes

Performance director Gretar Steinsson is to leave Tottenham Hotspur as the club continue to make changes behind the scenes, football.london understands.

The former Iceland international and Bolton defender joined the club just under a year ago, having previously worked for three years at Everton as head of recruitment and development and before that at Fleetwood Town as technical director for four years. Spurs' former managing director of football Fabio Paratici brought in the 41-year-old to work in essence as his number two within his structure at the north London outfit.

However, Paratici resigned from the club in April and Australian Scott Munn is set to officially take on a newly-created role of chief football officer on July 1, acting as chairman Daniel Levy's second in command. He will take responsibility for all football-related decisions within the club and has already been involved in decision-making at Spurs.

Now football.london understands that as part of the changing structure as the club move away from Paratici's set-up, Steinsson is to leave the club less than 12 months after being appointed by the Italian. Staff were made aware of the decision on Thursday and Steinsson's duties in the mean time will be taken on by Munn.

Spurs are currently looking for a new director of football to replace Paratici, with chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini heavily involved in their recruitment this summer as they rebuild the squad for new head coach Ange Postecoglou. Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario looks set to be the first new face of his era with the stopper expected to complete his move this weekend.

Academy manager Dean Rastrick also left the club this month to pursue new challenges with Simon Davies promoted to the role of academy director in his place.
