Greta Thunberg will take part in climate change protest on streets of Glasgow during COP26

Greta Thunberg will take part in a climate change protest on the streets of Glasgow during the upcoming COP26 conference.

The activist confirmed on social media she would be joining demonstrators next month.

In a message to millions of followers on Twitter, she said: "On Friday Nov 5 I’ll join the climate strike in Glasgow, during #COP26. Climate justice also means social justice and that we leave no one behind.

"So we invite everyone, especially the workers striking in Glasgow, to join us. See you there!"

The demonstration will see protesters march from Kelvingrove Park to George Square on November 5.

It comes as the COP26 conference is set to get underway in the coming days, running from October 31 to November 12.

The major UN summit will test countries' ambition to limit global warming and see global leaders from around the world descend on Glasgow.

The conference is the most significant since COP21 in Paris in 2015. In Glasgow, world leaders will work to ensure that global warming is kept to 1.5 degrees.

Thunberg had initially said she would skip the event out of concern about the uneven rollout of Covid vaccines across the world, which would leave some countries unable to attend safely.

But Britain's offer in June to vaccinate delegates saw the 18-year-old Swedish activist change her mind.
