Workplaces are using pictures of teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg to shame colleagues for using plastic.

'Greta shaming' has become a trend in Israel, as photos of the 16-year-old Swede have been spotted around office kitchens in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, according to Haaretz journalist Allison Kaplan Sommer.

In one workplace, a black-and-white image of her hangs above some plastic spoons implying the employees should use metal ones instead, while another shows her leaning against some plastic cups.

One picture, planted by plastic disposable cutlery, was accompanied by the caption "How dare you", a reference to her speech at the UN summit in New York in September.

The speech drew criticism from US President Donald Trump, who tweeted: "Seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

She responded by changing her Twitter bio to: "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."

The 'Greta shaming' trend comes after as Tel Aviv announced it would phase out single-use plastics in some child daycare facilities.

Ms Thunberg has received global recognition for protesting about climate change, and was recently dubbed a "leader of our time" following a meeting with actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
