Greta Thunberg delivers passionate speech in Glasgow woods as activist slams COP26

The world’s most famous climate activist Greta Thunberg today addressed a rally in a corner of Glasgow woodland.

Greta was surrounded by hundreds of activists in Festival Park in the city’s Govan.

She chose the area, one of three most deprived in Britain, to condemn the leaders gathered for COP26.

Greta joined the rally, organised by youth led group Fridays for Future, as it kicked off at 2pm today.

The 18-year-old Swedish activist met First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Monday morning before the protest, alongside Vanessa Nakate, 24, in Glasgow's SEC as dozens of world leaders arrived for the event.

Posing for a socially-distanced photo, the SNP leader bumped elbows with the young climate activists before sitting down with the pair for a discussion.

Speaking at the Fridays for Future event, Greta said: ”This COP26 is just like the previous ones. It is leading us nowhere.“

She laughed as the microphone let out a piercing noise of interference.

Greta added: “That noise perfectly depicts how we feel about this summit. Inside COP26 politicians and people in power are pretending to take our future seriously but they are lying.

"Change is not going to come from inside there. They are not the leadership, this here is leadership.

Greta may be tiny in height but her stature and presence is mighty.

The crowd cheered as she rallied them in a call of “ no more blah, blah”

She continued: "No more exploitation of people and the planet. No more of whatever the f*** they are doing in there at COP26 .“
