Greta Thunberg: Delays and diversions to First Bus routes through city centre

Several roads in Bristol have been closed ahead of Greta Thunberg's visit to Bristol.

The environmental icon will take part in a Youth Strike 4 Climate March and is set to make a speech on College Green at 11am.

And although it's all very exciting, road closures to mean one thing - delays, diversions and cancellations to bus routes.

It's already been announced no M1 buses will be running in Bristol city centre from 9:30 until 4pm. Anyone wanting to get back out of Bristol city centre at these times is urged to use the bus stop at the back of the Marriott Hotel by Old Market.

Other First Bus routes operating through Bristol City Centre from now until 5pm will be severely disrupted and traffic congestion is expected.

UPDATE: We are posting live updates on Greta Thunberg's visit, including the latest traffic news, here.

Ian Coyle, operations director for Bristol at First West of England, said: “We are working closely with local authorities to minimise disruption to our services on Friday.

"Delays are to be expected and diversions will be in operation for some services travelling through Bristol, particularly routes through city centre.

"We encourage all customers to factor in more time to their journeys and check the First West of England website and social media channels for updates, as diversions may change throughout the day.

"The safety and wellbeing of our customers, drivers and the public is our number one priority and we urge all those using our services to remain patient, whilst we work to continue to operate our inner-city routes as best as possible.”

Parents have been warned there's a potential for 'crushing' amid fears the event will not be controlled 'adequately'.
