Greta Thunberg announces she is coming to Bristol for school strike

World renowned climate change activist Greta Thunberg is coming to Bristol – to join teenage activists as they march through the city.

Teenager Greta, 17, announced on her Twitter feed this morning she will be joining Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate for its school strike at College Green next Friday.

It follows a strike event by the group on Valentine's Day.

Read here for updates on reaction and information on the event.

In her tweet she said: “Heading for UK! This Friday the 28th.

“I’m looking forward to joining the school strike in Bristol!

“We meet up at College Green at 11am

“See you there!"

The students are holding a series of strike as part of nationwide action by the UKStudentClimateNetwork.

The event is inspired by the actions of Greta.

On Valentine's Day hundreds of young people walked out of their lessons and appeared on College Green holding placards calling for action on climate change.

They also want educational systems reformed to teach young people more about the climate crisis.

Previous strikes across the city have also caused traffic disruption.
