A 46-year-old man has been charged after a video showing an effigy of the Grenfell Tower being burnt was posted online.

Paul Bussetti, from South Norwood in southeast London, is accused of two counts of sending or causing to be sent grossly offensive material via a public communications network.

The Metropolitan Police said he will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 30 April.

Scotland Yard launched an investigation into a video of a model of the tower block being burnt on a bonfire in a private garden last November.

Six men were arrested and a seventh interviewed under caution over the footage, which sparked outrage when it was posted online.

The prime minister, home secretary, fire chiefs and survivors all strongly condemned people heard laughing and joking in the video as they appeared to mock the tragedy.

A public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire continues. The second phase is expected to examine the circumstances leading up to the disaster and shed light on its causes.
