Grenfell scandal as more than 20 families are still homeless three years after horror blaze

Some 27 Grenfell families are still homeless nearly three years after the horrific blaze.

The households from in and around the doomed block are still in temporary accommodation despite a 2017 pledge by Theresa May.

At the time the then PM said she had: “Fixed a deadline of three weeks for everybody affected to be found a home nearby”.

This week Robyn Fairman, a boss at Tory-controlled Kensington and Chelsea council, said it was “not good” the families have no permanent homes.

Grenfell Tower caught fire on June 14 2017, 72 residents of the 24 storey building died (PA)

Among those hit is Mahmod Darabi, 50, who fled his home near the tower on June 14, 2017, the night of the fire which claimed 72 lives.

He is in a one bedroom property with his wife and daughter, aged two, after months in a hotel.

Mahmod, who has asthma, a heart condition and panic attacks, said the council had shown him unsuitable places.

He said: “I think the conditions might get worse for me as we might be expecting a second child. I feel neglected by the council.”

The council said availability of larger places has been a problem.

SHOUTING PROTESTERS CAUSE GRENFELL INQUIRY TO BE SUSPENDED

A Kensington and Chelsea spokesman said: “We have a system which allows residents to select and view properties they are interested in.

“Dedicated officers also support members of the local community, including this family, to help them find new homes.”
