The grenade was thrown by motorcycle-borne assailants near the Triveni gate of Army’s cantonment around 9 p.m., after which an alert was sounded across the district and search operation is being carried out to nab the suspects.

“The hand grenade attack took place close to 9 p.m. on Sunday night near the Triveni gate of the Army’s cantonment. There has been no casualty. We are screening the CCTV images. So far, no arrest has been made and investigations are under way,” Sudrinder Lamba, Senior Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu.

Mr. Lamba said that they were leaving nothing to chance and security had been beefed up in Pathankot and neighbouring areas to trace the suspects.

Pathankot district, which shares an international border with Pakistan, had seen a major terror attack in January 2016, when heavily-armed terrorists who had sneaked in from across the border attacked Pathankot airbase. In 2015 as well a police station in Dinanagar was targeted by terrorists.
