Genevieve Gregson has shown her versatility by stepping down in distance and kicking away to win the women's 1500m at the Melbourne Track Classic.
The two-time Olympian and steeplechase specialist ran a clever tactical race, bursting clear with 150 metres to run to clock four minutes 10.86 seconds.
It was a welcome return to winning form for the 31-year-old at Lakeside Stadium, with the Tokyo Olympic trials less than a month away.
"It's really hard to turn up to the events that you think you're good at and not win," said Gregson.
"I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform in the longer events because they're obviously my pet events, the 3K and up.
"But to come out and do a 1500, to be able to sit back and thankfully have a young girl Amy Bunnage to pace us which was very selfless .... I just sat back and enjoyed the ride, bided my time until I was able to kick away.
"I knew that if I was there at the bell I had a sniff for the win so I focused on that."
Gregson will return to her favoured 3000m steeplechase at Saturday night's Queensland Track Classic.
Gregson's husband Ryan was unable to make it a family 1500m double on Thursday night, the former national record holder fading to finish fifth in the men's race behind winner Jye Edwards (3:39.02).
Despite claiming a comprehensive victory in the women's 400m, Bendere Oboya was unimpressed with her time of 53.01.
But having already bettered the Olympic qualifying standard of 51.35, the pressure is somewhat off for Oboya who will be expecting to go significantly faster at the Queensland Track Classic on Saturday.
World championships finalist Matthew Denny won the men's discus with a best throw of 60.56m.
