Greggs workers will be getting a £300 bonus each this month, after the huge success of the company's vegan sausage rolls.
The bakery chain says it is a one-off payment to employees in recognition of their "crucial contribution to the company's success" after sales jumped more than 13 per cent last year.
"Our record financial performance in 2019 has enabled us to enhance returns to shareholders," said chief executive Roger Whiteside.
"I am delighted to announce that we will also be making a special additional payment to all of our colleagues across the business who have worked so hard to deliver this success in what has been a phenomenal year."
Greggs has 2,050 bakeries across the UK and employees 19,000 people.
The bonus comes one year after the firm launched its popular vegan sausage roll, which was followed by the vegan steak bake, launched in stores last week.
And over the Christmas period, the chain was selling vegan-friendly mince pies too.
Greggs is planning to open 100 new shops in 2020, and is experimenting with takeaway dinners by extending the opening times of some of its shops, so people can buy food for the evening on their way home from work.
"Looking to the year ahead, we face strong sales comparatives and cost inflation headwinds present a challenge," Roger Whiteside adds.
"However, with strong momentum in the business we see further growth opportunities across a number of channels as we invest in new ways to make Greggs more accessible and convenient for customers."
In 2019, sales grew 13.5 per cent compared to 7.2% growth in 2018.
