Greggs warn customers of rising prices but one product is safe from shortages

Greggs have announced that like many UK eateries, they are experiencing shortages of ingredients which has resulted in "temporary interruptions" in their supply chain.

As a result, the bakery chain has said that it was expecting cost pressures to rise as winter approaches causing worries that the current shortage crisis will cause prices to rise for their customers.

Greggs, which has more than 2,100 stores across the UK, have admitted that it “has not been immune to the well-publicised pressures on staffing and supply chains” and said that it had seen “ some disruption to the availability of labour and supply of ingredients and products in recent months”.

Despite the price hike news, sausage roll fans will not need to worry as chief executive Roger Whiteside has pledged that supplies of its famous sausage rolls - including the vegan ones - would not be affected despite shortages facing the pork industry.

He continued: "We’ve been firefighting like crazy because everywhere we turn there’s another problem with supply which needs an immediate workaround in place."

On the run-up to the festive period, Mr Whiteside added that Greggs was set for a successful trading period and settled any fears that its popular festive bake would be hit by supply chain issues.

He said: “The time around Christmas is still the golden quarter for retailers and we’ve got a number of Christmas specials. So if you can’t find a turkey, come and buy a festive bake.”
