Greggs’ vegan sausage roll row: Charlotte Crosby claps back at Piers Morgan in #DontHateTheRoll blast

Charlotte Crosby has warned Piers Morgan to not “hate the roll” after he waged war on the launch of Greggs’ vegan sausage roll.

Morgan, 53, was not a fan of the meat-free pastry, branding it the invention of “PC-ravaged clowns” as he sparked a huge Twitter debate.

He tweeted: “Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns.”

Geordie Shore star Crosby was among those who hit back, telling the Good Morning Britain star he is wrong, claiming there is a huge demand for the vegan alternative.

“Well actually with vegans on the rise with over a 700 per cent growth in the last 2 years, revealing the number of vegans in the UK now exceeds three-and-a-half million,” she tweeted. “Means there WAS in fact a lot of people waiting for this.”

She added: “#DontHateTheRoll #SausageRollThursdays #RockAndRoll.”

Greggs hits back after Piers Morgan tweet

Clearly not convinced by her statistics, Morgan replied: “If there are 3.5 million vegans in Britain then I’m the Archbishop of Canterbury.”

Morgan was also left outraged by his former Britain’s Got Talent co-star Amanda Holden who admitted to being among those who were excited to try the new addition to the high street bakery, tweeting: “WHAT?!!!!!!!!!?????”

Backlash: Piers Morgan is not a fan of vegans (ITV)

He mocked vegans and claimed he had been subjected to “howling abuse,” before tweeting: “Vegans, please stop screaming at me – you’re damaging my mental health.”

Taking aim at Greggs he continued: “Isn’t it time you changed your name to something more gender-fluid & less toxically masculine?”

Morgan was subjected to a barrage of abuse for his comments with many questioning why he is “so obsessed with a sausage roll”.

Greggs responded: “Oh hello Piers, we’ve been expecting you.”
