Greggs to hold trials on re-opening stores as businesses explore options on exiting lockdown

Bakery giant Greggs is to start re-opening some stores as part of a trial to see if it can cope with new social distancing rules.

The chain said some of its branches will test how well they can operate ahead of a possible re-opening of all 2,050 of its stores across the country.

A Greggs spokesman said: "We are planning to conduct a limited trial with volunteers to explore how we can reopen our shops with new measures in place that keep our colleagues and customers as safe as we can when we re-open at scale."

The news comes after McDonald's were forced to deny that they were set to re-open their 1,249 restaurants across the UK as drive-thrus.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "Of course we are thinking about re-opening and having those conversations – but it's unclear when that will be."
