It is an issue that has been chewed over for decades.
When it comes to sauces, the nation is split between red or brown - and there's no sitting on the fence.
Every sausage sandwich lover knows if they are a ketchup or HP person when they reach for their favourite bottle.
And now Greggs has sparked the debate again after it asked fans which condiment they prefer on a morning roll.
The bakery giant asked Twitter to vote between red or brown sauce to accompany bacon, sausage or egg.
Greggs wrote: "Let’s settle the age-old debate – red or brown in your breakfast bap?"
The results proved there is a clear champion on the sauce front, with UK fans in favour of ketchup with 63% of the vote compared to brown sauce's 37%.
The results sparked a heated discussion in the comments, with many sauce fans arguing in favour of red or brown.
One fan wrote: "Brown. I want a list of all those who voted red and I want them banned. I'm not having this red c**p".
Another commented: "Brown on bacon, red on sausage."
But one person disagreed and wrote: "Red on bacon Brown on sausage".
Another individual commented: "TBH I'm shocked how many people get this simple question wrong. Come on folks, brown sauce all the way..."
Meanwhile, someone wrote: "Red in summer brown in winter. I thought everyone knew this."
Elsewhere, one person quipped: "Both at the same time, unreal combo".
