'Greggs new vegan cheese and bean pasty has cheese so realistic that I panicked'

Vegan cheese tends to be... I don't want to say terrible. But I think we both know that there is definitely room for improvement.

So when Greggs released a vegan cheese, beans and sausage (although I struggled to find any sausage) pasty - I was optimistic but not holding my breath.

The vegan sausage roll, that is raved about by vegans and vegetarians alike, is in my opinion way too salty.

And the vegan steak bake (which appears to have been taken off the menu) had a strange texture - so I was apprehensive which I think is to be expected in this sitation.

Firstly, I must point out that I absolutely could not find the sausage in this.

I understand that in theory it's in there, but I couldn't tell you what it's like as I couldn't find a single piece.

But more importantly, this 'melt' freaked me out. After the initial 'I got none of the filling' bite that everyone has, I was surprised by how melty the cheese was.

Yes, it is in the name - but vegan cheese doesn't tend to have the stretchy consistency that you get from real cheese.

Sometimes it has the taste (as I saw with Pieminister) but it doesn't tend to succeed with the texture.

I briefly panicked that there was some sort of mix up and that the pasty I was tucking into was actually not the vegan one at all.

Although there are clear indicators on the packaging that it was (and I'd watched the employee get it from it's own vegan shelf).

I think the cheese and bean filling is quite nice, it reminded me a lot of when I was a child and would always want beans and cheese on my jacket potato.

If you're vegan, vegetarian or just looking for a change, this is definitely worth a try.

Vegan Sausage Roll - £1

I'm sorry, I tried. I really did.

But this is not a good vegan sausage roll, this is a salty vegan sausage roll that will have you massively needing a drink of water as the inside of your mouth will be dryer than the desert.

It's dry and salty. The pastry somehow suffers the same issue, which I find surprising as it's not a problem for the melt.

If there's nothing else and you're hungry then I suppose it will do.
