Greggs launch recipe video series so you can get your fix whilst stores are closed

Hands up who else was crushed when the news of Greggs shutting due to Coronavirus? Yeah, us too.

Well don’t panic as you can still satisfy those buttery pastry cravings at home thanks to the #GreggsItYourself recipe video series on their social media channels - or ‘GIY’ as they are calling it.

Fans can follow along and create their very own Greggs with ease.

Starting with the iconic Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melt, Greggs will be sharing some easy-to-follow recipes on Instagram in the coming weeks, so the nation can try its hand at creating the chain's beloved bakes.

Since the video of ‘how to’ first appeared on their Instagram, fans were quick to comment and view - with over 21,000 views already in just a few days.

Even Little Mix’s Jade Thirwall commented “MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED” - we couldn’t agree more.

Other fans said: “You are the saviours of 2020”

“Please be the vegan sausage roll next”

“Can't wait for the next GIY recipe. Hope it's the savoury chicken pastry”

They’ve made the recipe super simple too. All you’ll need is some beans which, controversially contain those little sausages too. But you could use real sausages or sausage meat, cheese, puff pastry and an egg.

If this it too much effort for you, then you can always pop to you're local Iceland as they have upped their Greggs order to store to satisfy the nation.

Iceland stock quite a range of Greggs favourites, ranging from Cheese and Onion Bakes and Chicken Bakes to the classic Steak Bakes and of course those famous Sausage Rolls.

To find your nearest Iceland, use the store locator.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “With everyone stuck at home and missing their Greggs, we hope ‘GIY’ will provide a bit of light relief, as well as filling a void until we’re able to open again.

“Whilst all the team are looking forward to be back serving customers as soon as it’s safe to do so, hopefully everyone can get their bake on and have a bit of fun creating some of their favourite Greggs products. We’re already enjoying seeing the fantastic efforts that have been shared via #GreggsItYourself.”

How to make your Greggs Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melt:

  1. Cut the pastry into two squares
  2. Egg wash the edges
  3. Mix and slightly squash your beans and sausage mix together
  4. Put on top of the pastry
  5. Apply a sprinkling of cheese on the beans mix
  6. Slightly score the top for an even rise and make it look like a Greggs original
  7. Fork your edges to stop any of that gorgeous mixtures oozing out
  8. Egg wash and stick in the oven for about 20 minutes at 180 degrees.

Then enjoy, obviously.
