Greggs is launching a new fried chicken menu to rival KFC

Greggs is taking on KFC to offer its customers fried chicken.

The bakery chain is launching a new menu which it hopes will rival fast food outlets.

The menu includes southern-fried chicken goujons (from £2.75), spicy BBQ chicken bites (from £1.50) and southern-fried potato wedges (from £1).

it will be available at more than 500 stores across the country, according to Manchester Evening News.

The meals will be available from new 'Hot to Go' counters, which are being rolled out after a trial at 119 outlets last year.

The hot cabinets will also be stocked with new breakfast boxes (from £1.90) and porridge pots (from £1.75) in the mornings.

The new fried chicken offering will be available alongside the bakery's usual pasties, slices and sandwiches throughout the day.

But the chain is aiming to take a bite out of the tea-time trade with the new offering, with a number of special offers only available after 4pm.

Grab-and-go meal deals will start from £2 for a pizza and a drink after 4pm, or £4 for chicken goujons or a hot sandwich with wedges and a drink.

The new Hot To Go counters will be installed by September 21.
