Greggs interested in opening at new Nottingham retail park

Bakery giant Greggs has declared an interest in opening a shop at the new retail park transforming the old Beechdale swimming baths site.

The company's logo is now on display at the retail park - and Greggs has formally applied to the city council to display its branding at the site.

"We're looking into the possibility of opening a new shop on the corner of Beechdale Road and Western Boulevard and will have more information in the near future," a Greggs spokesman said.

A new Lidl supermarket will also open at the retail park, creating up to 40 jobs.

In its most recent update, the company confirmed the supermarket was hoped to open this summer.

"Our ongoing expansion and store opening plans across Nottinghamshire underline our long-term commitment to the region," a Lidl spokeswoman said in May.

"This is especially important now, recognising the extremely important role that supermarkets are playing in providing local communities with access to food supplies and essentials.

"We would like to thank all of those who have played a part in bringing these new Lidl stores to fruition and we look forward to serving each local community when we open our doors."

Nottinghamshire Live has asked for an update on the store's opening.

Earlier this year people in the area said the supermarket was "definitely needed".

Meanwhile, Costa has expressed an interest in opening a drive-through at the retail park - and Subway also wants to open a new sandwich shop at the site after the closure of two eateries in Nottingham city centre.

A spokesman for Subway said: "We can confirm that the Subway stores at Long Row and Hounds Gate have permanently closed.

"However, we are pleased to share that we are looking at opening two new stores in the Nottingham area at Landmere Lane and Beechdale Retail Park in the coming months to better service our loyal guests' changing lifestyles and greater demand for delivery services."

The Beechdale swimming baths shut in 2015 after Nottingham City Council opened the £16 million Harvey Hadden Sports Village, which has its own swimming facilities.

The disheveled former bath house, built in the 1970s, was demolished in 2017.

The site sat empty until work began in earnest last year.
