Greggs hints at launch of new vegan range in January

Greggs has hinted at the release of a new vegan range in January 2020.

The news comes nearly one year since the release of its hugely popular vegan sausage roll.

In a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday morning, the pastry experts wrote: 'This isn't flake news.... Believe the hype. Greggs X vegan. Dropping January 2020."

They have not released further details on whether the vegan expansion will be a full menu or an individual product.

But over the summer, Greggs Chief Executive Roger Whiteside said the Newcastle-based chain was working on vegan alternatives to all its products.

Roger himself has confirmed he avoids meat and dairy products, even at Greggs.

Rumours then circulated in November claiming Greggs would release a vegan steak bake by Christmas, but the chain told sister publication ChronicleLive last month it had no updates on these plans.

Greggs has admitted, however, that the demand for the products is there.

Speaking in August, Mr Whiteside said: "We’re working away to see if we can come up with a vegan version of all our top-selling lines because people want a vegan option. That’s what’s been shown by the vegan sausage roll."
