Greggs has shared the recipe for another of its fans' favourite bakes

Greggs has shared the recipe for another of its fans' favourite pastries.

With its stores shut for the foreseeable future under lockdown, the bakery chain has been letting customers in on some of its secrets.

Its #GreggsItYourself social media series has already shown followers how to make the sausage, bean and cheese melt and the beloved steak bake.

Now it's the chicken bake's turn.

You'll need these seven ingredients to give it a go, along with a little oil for frying and salt and pepper to season:

  • Small chunks of chicken
  • Chicken stock
  • Cornflour mixed with water
  • Double cream
  • Cream cheese
  • Puff pastry
  • One egg, beaten

And here's the method, as shown in a video posted on their Instagram account.

1. Fry the chicken, then add the stock and bring to a simmer.

2. Add the cornflour and water mixture to thicken to your liking

3. Add double cream and cream cheese, then season to taste and leave to cool

4. Cut two pieces of pastry to size and brush the edges with the beaten egg

5. Spoon your filling on to one of the pastry pieces and and place the other sheet over the top

6. Use a fork to crimp the edges of the pastry sheets together and use a knife to score wavy lines into the top pastry sheet

7. Brush the rest of the beaten egg over the top and bake for 20 minutes at 200C (or until golden brown and piping hot).

For the true Greggs experience, eat it at the temperatures of either molten lava or tepid bathwater.

A spokesperson for Greggs said: "The first two recipes have proved very popular and we’ve loved seeing everyone’s bakes. Hopefully the chicken bake will prove to be just as popular.
