Greggs announce it plans to launch vegan versions of their best-selling products

Greggs has announced they will start making vegan versions of their best-selling products.

The news comes after the success of their Quorn filled vegan sausage roll.

Now the high street bakery plans to expand the range, reports Wales Online.

The vegan roll was previously so popular that they had to increase production to meet people's seemingly insatiable hunger for the meat-free product.

Greggs’ chief executive, Roger Whiteside revealed that their teams of developers were going all out to make vegan alternatives to the steak bake, pasties and doughnuts among many others.

Speaking to LBC he said: “We are working away to see if we can come up with a version of all our bestselling lines because people want vegan options.

"If we can produce something that tastes just as good as the meat version, then that will sell very successfully. That’s what’s been shown with the vegan sausage roll."

Mr Whiteside had previously said that they are working on a vegan doughnut using plant based milk.

There has been an explosion of veganism with a 400% increase since 2014 according to the Vegan Society.

People have gone vegan for a a huge range of reasons including environmental, ethical and health.

Environmentally a huge amount of damage is done through the production of meat in terms of both deforestation and emissions.
