Gregg Popovich initiates sideline reporter on his first night with classic responses

TNT reporter Chris Haynes was new to the job. Surely, he knew Gregg Popovich’s reputation as the grumpiest interview in basketball. But apparently, nothing can prepare a reporter for Popovich’s shtick.

Haynes asked Popovich about the San Antonio Spurs’ energy in their matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night in L.A.

“Energy level is great. Worst shots in the history of basketball,” Popovich deadpanned.

Through laughs, Haynes issued a follow-up question: How did the Spurs manage to hold LeBron James without points in the first quarter?

“Hell, I don’t know. I think he’s just getting into the game. It wasn’t any plan on my part,” Popovich said.

At least Popovich is warmer than Bill Belichick.
