Greg Taylor transfer battle as Celtic AND Sunderland make bids for in-demand left-back

Celtic and Sunderland are in a scrap to land Kilmarnock star Greg Taylor after submitting bids for the full-back.

The Rugby Park outfit now have offers on the table from the Scottish champions and the English League One giants.

The Killie board are set to discuss both offers, although neither bid has been accepted.

Both clubs are likely to hold further talks with Kilmarnock to see if they can strike a deal.

Record Sport revealed last Friday that the Hoops had enquired about Taylor.

Killie have made it clear to Celtic that they want £3million for their key man, who was named in the Scotland squad for the double header with Russia and Belgium.

Celtic were unwilling to meet that mark and were looking elsewhere but have now been forced into action with Sunderland boss Jack Ross also making a rival bid.

The Hoops have the added muscle of being able to offer players like Jack Hendry in part-exchange.

Celtic, who are preparing for their Europa League return against AIK Stockholm, are keen to get Taylor on board before the weekend clash with Rangers at Ibrox, with summer signing Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo from Rapid Vienna looking far from impressive.

Taylor has made it clear to Killie boss Angelo Alessio that he wants to talk to both clubs, knowing they could be life-changing moves.

He missed the weekend draw with Aberdeen with a hamstring strain, although he is frustrated at the lack of transfer movement.

German side Nurenberg failed with a £500,000 offer for Taylor earlier in the window.

Another option for the Hoops at left-back is a loan swoop for Ghana ace Gideon Mensah.

Russian big guns Zenit St Petersburg are among several clubs interested but the Hoops have slammed the door shut on any exit this summer.
