Greg Studrawa out as Ohio State offensive line coach

Ryan Day continues to make moves on the Ohio State coaching staff. First, he hired Jim Knowles away from Oklahoma State to be the Buckeye’s defensive coordinator. Then news broke that Matt Barnes was leaving OSU to become the Memphis Tigers defensive coordinator. And now, Day has relieved offensive-line coach Greg Studrawa of his duties.

Studrawa has been with the Buckeyes since 2016 and has had a pretty good run in Columbus. In six years time, he produced two Remington Trophy winners in Billy Price and Pat Elflein, as well as All-Americans Wyatt Davis and Michael Jordan.

With a plethora of talent, Studrawa went a little out of the box this year and started four tackles on the offensive line in an attempt to get the best players on the field. Some would question if the strategy worked or not as it seemed OSU struggled to run the ball from time to time and were exposed in Ann Arbor on Nov. 27.

Newly committed lineman, Carson Hinzman, said that his pledge to the Buckeyes has not swayed. He seems to be all in with Ryan Day And Ohio State.

Many believe current UCLA offensive coordinator, Justin Frye, is the front runner to replace Studrawa. He has been on staff with Ryan Day in stops at Temple and Boston College.

Would Frye leave an offensive coordinator title at a power five school to become a position coach? We all know money talks and friendships can go a long way in this business. Kevin Wilson has also been rumored for head coaching jobs at other programs, so it’s certainly possible that the coordinator position could come open in the coming years.

Ryan Day clearly wasn’t happy with how the season turned out and is making some moves to address the frustration. Studrawa did a fine job in Columbus, but it was probably time for a change. I doubt he’ll have a hard time landing somewhere else.

We’ll let you know when Day makes a move on a new offensive line coach.
