Greg Stewart signs for Indian side Jamshedpur as Owen Coyle gets bagpipes out for former Rangers man

Indian side Jamshedpur FC have confirmed the signing of former Rangers and Aberdeen striker Greg Stewart - with a traditionally Scottish announcement video.

Stewart had spent the last two seasons on Rangers ' books but left the club under freedom of contract in the summer.

He is on the lookout for regular football and was linked with Hibs and Hearts among others this summer.

The assumption was he would remain in Scotland, where he has also starred for Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Dundee and Cowdenbeath in the past.

But he has instead been recruited by Indian side Jamshedpur.

They confirmed his signing with an over-the-top video which featured bagpipes blaring in the background as his name and shirt number are revealed.

The move may raise eyebrows at first glance but it makes more sense when you consider they are managed by a familiar name in Owen Coyle.

The ex Falkirk and St Johnstone boss has been in India since leaving Ross County and managed Chennaiyin before moving to Jamshedpur a year ago.

Stewart is the second Scottish-based player Coyle has recruited having made Motherwell's Peter Hartley one of his first signings last September.

Jamshedpur are a mid-table side in India but Coyle will be hoping Stewart can help fire them up the Indian Super League table.
