Greg Stewart earns 'terrific' Rangers praise as club confirm Ibrox exit for duo

Rangers have confirmed the exit of Greg Stewart after two years at the club.

The Ibrox side have announced his departure and thanked him for his efforts, while also confirming that Bongani Zungu’s move won’t be made permanent.

But they issued their thanks to both players with Stewart being branded a ‘terrific asset’ for his attitude.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson admits he’s delighted that Stewart gets to leave his boyhood heroes as a champion.

The 31-year-old signed on a free transfer from Birmingham City and was used as a back-up player but got big goals against both Aberdeen and Hearts in his first season.

And Wilson said: “We made a number of changes to the squad last summer and the group has a real strength and connection in it between all of the players. Greg and Bongani were two really positive influences and popular members around the group.

“As a Rangers fan I know how much it meant to Greg to help the club clinch the league championship and I am delighted he moves on to his next challenge as a league champion.”

Zungu also leaves the club after his season on loan from Amiens, where he made 21 appearances.

He struggled to make himself a regular in the first team and his Covid-19 ban ended any chance of him turning his move into a permanent deal.
