Greg Stewart and Bongani Zungu leave Rangers as club pay tribute to departing duo

Rangers have bid farewell to Greg Stewart and Bongani Zungu with a glowing tribute to the departing duo.

The pair played their part in Ibrox history by delivering the club’s first title in a decade with a 25-point title romp.

Stewart spent two seasons with his boyhood heroes after joining from Birmingham City while South Africa international Zungu joined on loan from French side Amiens.

Gers had an option to buy Zungu but Steven Gerrard has decided against signing the player who was one of the players caught up in the Covid controversy that saw them hit with seven-game SFA bans.

The 28-year-old made a total of 21 appearances during his time in Scotland and, speaking to the club website about the pair’s contribution, sporting director Ross Wilson said: “Greg and Bongani were two really positive influences and popular members around the group.

“We made a number of changes to the squad last summer and the group has a real strength and connection in it between all of the players.

“As a Rangers fan I know how much it meant to Greg to help the club clinch the league championship and I am delighted he moves on to his next challenge as a league champion.”
