Greg Steube suffers 'serious injuries' falling from ladder - but not life-threatening

US Congressman Greg Steube was rushed to hospital and spent the night in the intensive care unit after he fell 25ft from a ladder while cutting a tree.

The representative, 44, who serves Florida's 17th congressional district, sustained several injuries after an incident at his home on Florida's Gulf Coast yesterday afternoon, his office said.

Mr Steube's injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening at this time, it has been confirmed.

According to a statement published on Congressman Steube's official Twitter account, he is making progress and remains "in good spirits".

The Congressman's office also credited "an individual" who witnessed the fall and called 911, and thanked Sarasota County's emergency services for the quick response and transportation to the hospital.

The statement says: "Thank you to all who continue to pray for Congressman Steube.

"The Congressman was knocked approximately 25 feet down off a ladder while cutting tree limbs on his Sarasota property yesterday afternoon.

"The Congressman spent the night in the ICU where several serious injuries are still under assessment but not life-threatening at this time. He is making progress and in good spirits.

"Congressman Steube and his family would like to express their deepest thanks to the team of doctors, nurses, and medical personnel treating him.

"We are thankful to the individual who witnessed the fall and immediately called 911, as well as Sarasota County’s Emergency Services for their quick response and transportation."

Congressman Jim Baird said: "Continuing to pray for you, your family, and your medical team. I'm very glad to hear you're improving and in good spirits."

Fellow Republican Christian Ziegler, who is vice chair of Florida's GOP, tweeted late Wednesday that he had just heard that Steube was still in the hospital, but doing well. "Big relief to hear," Ziegler said in the tweet.

Steube was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and just began his third term. He represents all of Sarasota and Charlotte counties and part of Lee County.
