Greg Sloggett says turning down Dundalk move would have been impossible

Greg Slogget says it was impossible to turn down a move to champions Dundalk having completed his switch from Derry City today.

The Meath man impressed for the Candystripes this season having signed from UCD last winter.

But as was widely expected, the Lilywhites have pounced for the highly regarded midfielder in what is Vinny Perth’s first close season signing.

Sloggett, 23, said: "I'm delighted to get the deal done and I'm very proud to join the biggest club in the country.

“It's impossible to turn down the champions of Ireland. The success that Dundalk have had in recent years is incredible.

“It's something that I want to be a part of and to help bring more success to this club."

Dundalk boss Perth said: “Greg is someone we rate highly.

“We monitored him throughout his time at UCD and we feel the year at Derry City has really helped develop him.”

Perth added: “Greg has not made an easy decision by coming to Dundalk, he had many other suitors but he decided to come here.

“He is a fantastic athlete, a fantastic footballer and will be a massive asset to our squad ahead of next season, particularly in Europe.”

Sloggett is not eligible to play in the Unite the Union Champions Cup games against Irish League champions Linfield.
