New England Patriots defensive coordinator Greg Schiano is stepping down from his role as defensive coordinator, he announced on Thursday afternoon. The team had yet to officially announce Schiano joining the team. It would have been his first year on the staff.
In coming to this decision, Schiano cited no particular event, but rather his desire to be with his family and his faith.
Schiano joined the Patriots after serving in the same role under Urban Meyer at Ohio State. Schiano and Bill Belichick are long-standing friends, with Belichick’s son Steve attending Rutgers when Schiano was head coach.
