Greg Olsen choosing Seahawks isn’t major setback for Redskins

There was some hope the Washington Redskins would get an early jump on free agency at a major position of need with Greg Olsen — and the Ron Rivera connection certainly didn’t hurt.

But Olsen chose to sign with the Seattle Seahawks.

And yet, there are worse things that could happen. The idea of adding Olsen was at least somewhat exciting.

But on the other end of the spectrum, there was some serious risk. Olsen, after all, is now 35 years old and appeared to potentially have at least one foot out the door toward a broadcasting career.

He also signed for a gaudy $7 million.

Silver linings persist. Free agency, for example, boasts some notable names still:

  • Eric Ebron
  • Tyler Eifert
  • Hunter Henry
  • Charles Clay
  • Austin Hooper

If the Redskins want to spend big at tight end, especially if Jordan Reed leaves, they will have plenty of chances to do so.

And if the Redskins want to get a rookie in there to grow alongside Dwayne Haskins, it’s a pretty good draft class to do just that.

Regardless of what Olsen does in Seattle, the Redskins remain in a good position to revamp one of their worst positions.
