Greg O'Shea fans demand Love Island homecoming after he becomes first ever Irish winner

Greg O'Shea won the hearts of the nation last night after he became the first ever Irish winner of Love Island.

The Limerick man and Longford woman Maura Higgins were the first ever Irish contestants to make the final of the show.

And the 24-year-old made further history after winning the series with partner Amber Gill.

Greg set hearts racing as he donned a sharp tuxedo and wowed Amber with a romantic and funny poem.

Despite being together just two weeks, Amber and Greg managed to beat bookies' favourites Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague who had been together for nearly seven weeks.

And when it came down to splitting the prize money, generous Greg shared the €55,000 with Newcastle beauty Amber.

Although Irish viewers couldn't vote, Greg still received huge support and now Twitter users are begging officials in Ireland to throw a hero's homecoming.

One person said: "I look forward to Michael D. Higgins releasing a statement congratulating Greg on his fantastic achievement."

Meanwhile others suggested Sports Minister Shane Ross should come out to greet the Rugby Sevens star.

And after Shane Lowry's triumphant Open celebrations at The Boar's Head in Dublin, several Twitter users nominated it as the obvious place for a celebration.

One tweeted the bar asking:" Will Greg be making an appearance in the @boarsheaddublin tomorrow?"

Another added: "@boarsheaddublin you're hosting the homecoming party tomorrow if we win this yeah? #loveisland #longfordabu #shanewho? #maurahiggins".
